Submission of paper logbooks and landing declaration data, for commercial fishing vessels of 10-12 metres length

The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is preparing to help our fishing and seafood industries to be ready to trade successfully in the international marketplace from 1st January 2021.

In 2021, the UK will become solely responsible for our seas, and will begin new trading relationships with the EU and the rest of the world.

Exports of fish, seafood, or seafood products to EU countries will need digital UK catch certificates to provide traceability data. Paper logbook records enable these catch certificates to be issued.

It is therefore even more important that paper logbook are submitted on time and that all logbooks, landing declarations, catch records and sales notes have accurate data. To facilitate sales and exports, the paper logbook, landing declarations and sales notes for all consignments should have corresponding landing dates to avoid any possible delays or blockages to the process.

The records and statistics on what is taken out of the sea, where and when, are currently used by MMO and government to make decisions on the future sustainability of fish stocks and the seafood industry. The records provided are used to:

  • Facilitate trade and export of your catch and fisheries products outside of the UK
  • Provide a record of traceability which assures confidence in UK products for your customers
  • Create a track record which you can use as evidence to support applications for fisheries funding or grants
  • Allow the MMO to conduct better fisheries management and make informed decisions to maintain sustainable fisheries for you and your customers
