Spectator safety is aimed at those individuals looking to enter the industry as a steward, marshal, or an assistant ground safety officer for large scale sporting events.

Training opportunities

There is an increasing demand for occupationally competent stewards due to the popularity of professional sport throughout England including:

  • football

  • cricket

Indoor sports:

  • ice hockey

Types of apprenticeships

On the intermediate level apprenticeship you could work as:

  • a steward - monitoring crowds and dealing with problems
  • a marshal - helping to provide for the health, safety, enjoyment and security of spectators

As an advanced level apprentice you could work as:

  • a grounds safety officer - helping to resolve conflicts or overseeing and assisting in the safe operation of the ground.
