Types of apprenticeships that you can apply for in the security systems sector.

Security and fire systems installers fit and service electronic systems that detect intruders and fire. They also control access to buildings or sites electronically.

Training opportunities

You could be:

  • installing fire or security systems and rigging them to control panels
  • testing systems
  • explaining to customers how to use the system
  • repairing faulty systems

You’ll probably be working with technologies like wire-free system links or infrared and fibre optics. You might also learn to fit complex arrangements like CCTV and integrated systems.

Types of apprenticeships

There are 2 types of apprenticeship.

Intermediate level apprenticeship

  • security systems installation engineer
  • security systems maintenance engineer
  • security systems installation and maintenance engineer

Advanced level apprenticeship

  • security systems surveyor
  • security systems installation and maintenance engineer

Apply for a security systems apprenticeship

You can become an apprentice in England if you’re:

  • 16 or over
  • eligible to work in England
  • not in full-time education
