Rural Payments: add land by email in 2022

You can add a land parcel by email for 2022 to your Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) application, Countryside Stewardship (CS) application or Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) application.

Applies to England

From 31 January 2022 you can add land by email. You need to:

  • send us an email from an email address registered for a person in the business on the Rural Payments service, with at least ‘BPS: Amend’ permission or ‘CS Amend’ application permission asking us to add the land to your online application
  • include ‘Add Land’ in the title of the email

The email should include the following information:

  • the Single Business Identifier (SBI) and name of the business the land should be linked to (as it appears on your online application)
  • a brief reason for the request, for example to submit your application for BPS, CS or SFI (please specify the scheme)
  • the land parcel reference numbers for the parcels you want to add. National Grid field numbers should be in the format of 2 letters followed by 8 numbers. For example, AB1234 5678
  • your name and contact number in case of any issues

Send your email to: ruralpayments@defra.gov.uk.

For BPS customers, we must receive your email by 3 May 2022 to make sure we can get back to you in time for you to complete your application by the 16 May 2022 deadline.

For CS customers, we will continue to work on requests to add land after 16 May 2022. An end date is not yet confirmed.

For SFI customers, we will process email requests to add land throughout the year as there is no SFI application deadline.

We will send an email (to the email address that the request was sent from) after the land parcel(s) have been linked to your SBI so you can continue with your online BPS, CS or SFI application.

In some cases, we may not be able to link the land parcel to your SBI, for example, if it has an outstanding mapping update. This means you will not be able to include the land parcel in your online BPS application by the 16 May 2022 deadline. In this case, we will email you and provide a link to the BP5 continuation booklet(s) that you will need to complete and submit. You must post the continuation booklet(s) to us. We cannot accept them by email.
