Reporting poor R&D tax relief service standards

How to report poor service standards in Research and Development (R&D) tax relief claims if you’re an agent.

If you’re an agent (or accountancy professional) and you suspect another agent of poor Research and Development (R&D) tax relief service standards, such as:

  • giving misleading information
  • having poor technical knowledge
  • dishonest behaviour

You can report them to HMRC. This helps us reduce error and fraud.

How to report an agent

To report an agent, you’ll need to tell us:

  • your name
  • the company you work for
  • the name of the agent you suspect
  • details of what happened and when it took place (if known)

Email this information to: wmbciandrclaimstandards@hmrc.gov.uk

You can also add more detail to the report such as the scale of the issue and the impact it’s having, if you think it’s relevant.

What happens next

Once we’ve received your report, we will:

  • review the information
  • contact you if we need more details
  • decide if we can investigate

Due to confidentiality, we will not tell you if we decide to investigate.

We will also not respond if you use this email address for any other purpose.
