Report pig movements as a market, collection centre, showground or slaughterhouse

How to report pig movements using the electronic animal movement licensing (eAML2) service.

Applies to England

You must report all movements of pigs on to or off your premises. This is to help prevent and control the spread of disease.

It’s your responsibility to follow the rules. If you do not, you could get a fine, be prosecuted or have your animal gathering order licence withdrawn.

You must also keep a holding register to record the movements.

Report as a market

For off movements, when you invoice the keeper for a sale, your back-office software should:

For on movements, your software will send the movement information to eAML2 after the auction.

Sending keepers will usually set up the movement (pre-notify) to your market.

If you ask (or allow) them to send you pigs on the sale date without setting up a movement, you must report the whole movement journey on the day of the pigs’ arrival.

The whole movement journey includes:

  • setting up the movement on eAML2
  • confirming the off movement from the sending keeper
  • confirming the on movement to your market

The pigs must still arrive with completed movement documents.

Report as a collection centre

You must use eAML2. When you log in you’ll see a list of confirmed movements to your collection centre for the day.

Check and confirm the number of pigs received for each movement.

You can also report an on (‘inbound’) movement if you need to, for example if you have a customer who cannot fill in the form online.

A sending keeper may choose not to set up a movement (pre-notify) in advance, if you agree beforehand to report the whole move on their behalf. You must do this on the day that the pigs arrive at your collection centre.

The sending keeping must still send completed movement documents with the pigs.

Set up the off movement

Choose the destination slaughterhouse (‘abattoir’ in eAML2) from the drop-down list, then select ‘set up a new movement’.

Enter the number of pigs you want to send from the list of movements and select ‘create outbound movement’.

Print the required number of movement documents and give them to the haulier. The slaughterhouse will confirm the on movement to their premise to complete the move.

Report as a showground

You do not need to report movements, because the keeper in control of the animals will report both the on and off movement.

You should keep the paper movement documents that arrive with the animals for 3 years.

Report as a slaughterhouse

You must use eAML2. When you log in, you’ll have a list of movements. Check and confirm that you have received those animals.

You can make changes, for example if the number of pigs that arrived is different from the number on eAML2 or on the movement document.

You’ll also get an email each night with that day’s:

  • inbound movement documents
  • food chain information documents
