Register to complete origin declarations under the UK-India Free Trade Agreement
Register with HMRC if you're planning to complete origin declarations for exports under the UK-India Free Trade Agreement.
Who needs to register
You need to register with HMRC if both of the following apply:
- you’re a UK producer or exporter exporting goods originating in the UK to India
- you plan to complete origin declarations under the UK-India Free Trade Agreement
The agreement allows you to self-certify origin, instead of having to obtain an origin certificate from a competent authority each time you send a consignment of goods to India.
You can continue to export to India without origin declarations if either:
- your goods do not qualify for preferential tariffs
- you choose not to use the UK-India Free Trade Agreement
Your goods may be subject to non-preferential tariff rates if you do not use origin declarations.
What you’ll need
You’ll need:
- the Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number that we have on record for your business
- your business or trading name
- a primary email address and up to 10 additional email addresses — you can use any of these to send origin declarations to the customs authority of India
You can only register these email addresses with one EORI number to complete origin declarations under the UK-India Free Trade Agreement.
If you register an email address with multiple EORI numbers, the customs authority of India may:
- not be able to authenticate the consignment
- reject any origin declarations relating to these EORI numbers
If this happens, the importer in India will not be able to claim a preferential tariff.
We will share your details with the customs authority of India to authenticate each consignment exported under the free trade agreement. Read about how we protect data and process personal information in HMRC’s Privacy Notice.

- customs authority of India
- importer in India
