Register an organisation under the RTFO or SAF Mandate
How to register an organisation under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) or Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Mandate.
Registering an organisation under the RTFO
You must register under the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) if your company owns and supplies 450,000 litres or more of relevant transport fuel for use in the UK during the course of an obligation year (1 January to 31 December).
The 450,000 litre figure includes all fossil fuels and low carbon fuels.
If your company supplies less than 450,000 litres a year in the UK, you can still register if you want to claim renewable transport fuel certificates (RTFCs). Any company that supplies low carbon fuel for use in relevant transport modes in the UK can claim RTFCs. You can trade RTFCs or sell them to companies that need them to meet their obligations under the RTFO.
Registering an organisation under the SAF Mandate
You must register under the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Mandate if your company owns and supplies 15.9 terajoules or more of relevant aviation turbine fuel for use in the UK during the course of an obligation year (1 January to 31 December).
If your company supplies less than 15.9 terajoules a year in the UK, you can still register if you want to claim SAF certificates. Any company that supplies low carbon avtur, avgas or hydrogen for use in aviation in the UK can claim SAF Mandate certificates. You can trade certificates or sell them to companies that need them to meet their obligations under the SAF Mandate.
