NMO: quality management system certification

Information for manufacturers and verifiers.

Quality management system certification entails the approval of your process for producing an instrument, or verifying it following its repair or modification. We can provide conformity assessment and issue certificates covering:

In addition, we are a Certification Body for ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems and management systems for self-verifiers under section 11A of the Weights and Measures Act 1985.

Process overview

  1. Complete and submit the online application form at the bottom of this page. You will soon be contacted by an NMO representative.
  2. Discuss your requirement and what you want to achieve with the representative, who will then determine what certification is appropriate and give a quotation. (This will exclude travel and accommodation charges, as these will not be known until the audit is completed and a cost estimate will be provided for these.)
  3. Once you have accepted the quotation, you will be assigned an NMO auditor, who will contact you to arrange the audit. If you are a new client, we will invoice you for 50% of the quotation at this point.
  4. The auditor will provide you with an audit plan, detailing what will be covered during the audit and in what order. He or she may ask you to make certain members of your staff available at certain times.
  5. The auditor will visit your site, conduct the audit, produce a report and provide you with a draft copy. Please note that the final version of the report must be signed off by a Technical Manager, and will be sent to you once this has happened.
  6. If non-conformities are raised, the auditor will agree a timeframe with you within which you must respond. You will be expected to conduct root cause analysis to determine why the non-conformance occurred and propose corrective action. This may need to be evidenced – more than just an action plan.
  7. Once the audit is complete, with any non-conformities resolved, NMO will certify your organisation to the appropriate standard.
  8. If you are a new customer, you will typically receive your second audit 6 months after the first, and annually thereafter, with the exception of ISO 9001 audits, which are subsequently annual.
