Natural England: make a personal data request

Ask Natural England to provide or change the personal information they hold about you, under your data protection rights.

Applies to England

UK data protection law gives individuals the right of access and a number of other rights in relation to their personal information. These include rights relating to:

  • correction of inaccurate personal data
  • erasure of personal data in certain circumstances
  • restriction of processing
  • objection to processing
  • data portability
  • automated decision-making and profiling

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) website has a guide to individual rights requests.

How we use your personal data

Our privacy notice explains what personal information we collect and how we use it when processing individual rights requests submitted to Natural England.

Our personal information charter explains what to expect from Natural England when we ask for, or hold, your personal information.

Before you submit an individual rights request

Before you submit an individual rights request under UK data protection legislation, you should have the following information available:

  • details of the information you’re requesting, including any relevant dates or time periods
  • information about the service, department or team that may hold the information
  • any reference numbers, correspondence, case details or names of staff you have dealt with that may help us locate the information
  • a current and valid form of ID, such as a driving licence or passport, to verify your identity

Providing clear and detailed information will help us process your request more efficiently and avoid unnecessary delays.

Where a request is particularly complex, or where multiple requests have been submitted, it may be necessary to extend this timescale by up to a further 2 months.

If an extension is required, we will inform you within the initial one-month period and explain the reasons for the delay.

Your request will be assessed in accordance with data protection legislation.

In some circumstances, Natural England may be unable to fulfil your request, either in full or in part. Where this applies, we will inform you of the reason for our decision.
