There is estimated to be around 3,000 locksmithing professionals working in the UK, with the majority of those traders owning their own small business. You’ll need to be practical and have an interest in lock and key systems. You’ll also need customer service skills.

You can become an apprentice in England if you’re:
- 16 or over
- eligible to work in England
- not in full-time education
