Guidance

How to guides for fisheries management participation

Getting involved in fisheries management can seem complicated. Many stakeholders are unsure where to begin or do not feel confident about the process. The Regional Fisheries Groups (RFGs) have provided clear, practical guides that explain, step by step, how you can participate and make your views heard.

This work supports the recommendations set out in the Fisher to Fisher Roadmap, which highlights the importance of empowering fishers to participate in management decisions.

What we’re doing

We are creating a series of short, user-friendly guides that explain key steps and processes in fisheries management. These guides are designed to make participation easier, more accessible and more transparent.

Each guide focuses on a specific topic, such as how to write an effective consultation response or the difference between a call for evidence and a consultation. The videos will be accompanied by relevant links and, where appropriate, infographics.

Who it’s for

These guides are for inshore fishers and anyone in the fisheries sector who wants to understand and take part in fisheries management.

Why it matters

Active participation by fishers is essential for sustainable fisheries. By making fisheries management easier to understand, these guides help ensure that fishers’ voices are heard.
