Heating and ventilation apprenticeships

Types of apprenticeships that you can apply for in the heating and ventilation sector.

This apprenticeship covers a wide range of skills and occupations from keeping us warm at the cinema to keeping blood at the right temperature for lifesaving operations.

Training opportunities

On the intermediate level apprenticeship you could work as a heating and ventilating installer:

  • working under minimal supervision to complete the installation, testing and de-commissioning of industrial and commercial heating
  • ventilating pipework systems, including hot water, cold water, fire protection, heating (including gas pipework carcassing) and compressed air systems

On the advanced level apprenticeship you could work as:

  • a heating and ventilating welder: completing and overseeing the installation, fabrication, welding and specialist jointing of industrial and commercial heating and ventilation pipework systems
  • a heating and ventilating service and maintenance engineer: completing and overseeing servicing and maintenance, fault-finding, repairs, rectification and modification of complex heating and ventilation systems, components, pipework and appliances

Types of apprenticeships

There are 2 types of apprenticeships.

Intermediate level apprenticeship

You can train in roles like:

  • heating and ventilating ductwork installation operative
  • heating and ventilating installer
  • heating and ventilating service and maintenance operative

Advanced level apprenticeship

You can train in roles like:

  • heating and ventilating ductwork installer
  • heating and ventilating engineer
  • heating and ventilating welder
  • heating and ventilating service and maintenance engineer
