Business continuity procedure
Information on business continuity procedures for Goods Vehicle Movement Service.
HMRC provides an update of all Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) service availability and issues. In the event of an unplanned outage affecting HMRC systems, HMRC will issue guidance to carriers and hauliers. This will clarify whether goods may proceed without following the normal processes and procedures. Such permission is strictly limited to outages within HMRC’s systems and requires explicit written authorisation from HMRC.
Once service has resumed, HMRC will notify carriers by email and on HMRC service availability pages to confirm the conclusion of Business Continuity Procedures. From that point onward, standard procedures will be reinstated and must be followed.
The latest GVMS live service status can be found on the GVMS Service Dashboard.
