Child safety: Nil By Mouth Ingestion Product Safety

Legacy resources to raise awareness about potential hazards to children from swallowing small objects produced for a product safety campaign during 2022.

These resources were produced for a product safety campaign undertaken in April and May 2022. They remain available as a matter of public record and are no longer in active use by OPSS.

Please see our Small hazards, big harm product safety campaign for our current button batteries resources.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is leading an important campaign to raise awareness among parents and carers about the potential hazards to children associated with putting items such as button batteries, magnets, imitation food and small toy objects in their mouths and ingesting them.

OPSS is keen for groups, businesses, and individuals to support and share the materials on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram by using the hashtag #nilbymouth.
