Building energy management systems are computer-based control systems installed in buildings that control and monitor the building’s mechanical and electrical equipment.
As an apprentice, you will work under the close supervision of a class teacher. Your duties will vary depending on how the teachers you work with plan their lessons. In this apprenticeships sector you could expect to learn about:

- fire systems
- security systems
Types of apprenticeships
There are 3 types of building energy management systems apprenticeships.
You could train in roles like:
Building energy management systems commissioning technician.
Responsible for commissioning of building energy management systems in accordance with a particular design and specification to ensure the system functions after installation.
Building energy management systems installation technician.
Responsible for ensuring the building energy management system is installed safely and in a technically correct and efficient manner.
Building energy management systems maintenance technician.
Responsible for looking after the servicing of building energy management systems and ensuring they continue to operate in a safe, technically correct and efficient manner.
