On 17 February Her Majesty’s Ambassador Christopher Allan hosted a welcome home reception for the newly returned 2015 Chevening scholars.

Over ten other Chevening alumni participated at the event to welcome the new alumni. Both alumni have successfully completed their master’s degrees at prestigious universities in UK. The scholars obtained MSc degree in Economics and Finance at Durham University and MSc in Environmental Technologies at University College London.

The Chevening scholarship programme keeps in touch with Chevening scholars after their return and the welcome home reception was specially organised to introduce the new alumni to the existing Chevening alumni community in Uzbekistan.

Chevening Scholarship Programme is the UK government’s international awards scheme aimed at developing global leaders. Funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations, Chevening offers two types of award – Chevening Scholarships and Chevening Fellowships.

Chevening offers a unique opportunity for future leaders, influencers, and decision-makers from all over the world to develop professionally and academically, network extensively, experience UK culture, and build lasting positive relationships with the UK.

In Uzbekistan the Chevening scholarship programme was launched in 1994 and now it has more than 150 alumni countrywide. Most of them occupy highly responsible positions in state and international organizations as well as business sphere. In 2013 the British Embassy in Tashkent together with the most active Chevening alumni decided to re-establish the alumni network welcoming all Uzbek graduates with British experience.

At the reception, Her Majesty’s Ambassador Christopher Allan greeted the new alumni and presented them Chevening completion certificates. The alumni have talked about their experience and impressions of living in UK and education system. Also, the participants of the event enjoyed traditional British cuisine at the reception.
