UK, US and France joint statement on violence in Benghazi

The Governments of France, the United Kingdom and the United States strongly condemn the violence in Benghazi on Saturday 8 June. On behalf of their Governments, the French and British Ambassadors and the US Chargé d’Affaires in Tripoli wish to extend their deepest condolences to the families of the victims of this tragic event. Libya is at a critical stage in its transition to a stable, democratic and prosperous state. This terrible loss of life underlines the importance of inclusive political dialogue and the need for members of all armed groups to be swiftly integrated into state controlled military and security forces under the rule of law or to return to civilian life. Our Governments stand ready to support the Libyan people and Government in this process, to help build professional security institutions and to work with the Libyan authorities to implement the decisions taken at the Paris Conference on 12 February 2013.
