The UK Universities East Africa Fair 2013 took place at the Sarit Centre from Friday 26 April to Sunday to 28 April. This year’s event was hosted by the Uniserv Education. The British High Commission’s Visa services and British Council took part in the event and provided information on visa application processes in relation to student visas and English tests required by some of the universities. The event was aimed at creating awareness and opportunities for studies in the UK for students pursuing local curriculum in Kenyan schools and colleges. About 36 reputable UK universities participated in the fair this year.

Speaking during the opening of the Fair, the British High Commissioner to Kenya Dr. Christian Turner said:

The UK government is extremely proud of its close educational ties with Kenya and is delighted that UK Visa and Immigration and the British Council are taking part in this year’s UK Universities East Africa Fair. The British High Commission in Nairobi believes it is a priority to support Kenyan students who wish to further their studies in the UK.

Thousands of Kenyans are currently studying in the UK – at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The British Government directly supports a few of those such as the Chevening Scholarship funded by the FCO which provides opportunities to potential leaders from around the world to study at British Universities. The British Council has recently introduced the Tullow Group Scholarship Scheme which targets the Oil and Gas industry and sponsors a postgraduate degree with the aim to build up the human capacity and knowledge in this field.
