UK Secretary of State for Education signs Memorandum of Understanding with Israel to boost English language training

The UK’s Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, signed an agreement with his Israeli counterpart Rabbi Shai Piron to increase the two countries’ cooperation on English language training.

The UK’s Secretary of State for Education, Michael Gove, signed an agreement with his Israeli counterpart Rabbi Shai Piron to increase the two countries’ cooperation on English language training.

The agreement includes a new 5-year, nationwide teacher training programme for teachers of English that was developed by the British Council, which aims to reach thousands of teachers in Israel. The programme includes joint teacher training seminars, development of online teaching tools and introduction of new teaching techniques.

Commenting on the MoU, Michael Gove said: “I am delighted to sign this agreement. It will go a long way to contribute to quality English teaching in Israel. More qualified teachers means more Israeli children leaving school able to understand English.”

“Education cooperation is a good example of the flourishing bilateral links between the UK and Israel. Whether it be trade, tech, science and now education, the cooperation growing between us is evidence of a relationship getting stronger.”

Israel Education Minister Shai Piron said: “The cooperation will strengthen the link between the two countries and will contribute to the advancement of the Israeli and British education systems, through sharing knowledge, teaching methods and study programmes.”
