UK open for Indian gaming companies with global ambitions

The UK Department for International Trade (DIT) in India will host a panel discussion at the CII India Gaming Show on 2 February, New Delhi.

The panel discussion, ‘From console to mobile to VR - growth, trends and opportunities in the UK games industry’ will bring together experts from the UK and India and will be chaired by Mark Leaver, Digital and Creative Sector Specialist, DIT.

Dr Jo Twist OBE, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Association for UK Interactive Entertainment, Manish Agarwal, CEO at Nazara Games and Alexis Madinier, Studio Head at Sumo Digital will also be participating in the panel discussion.

Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) said:

CII is glad to present the first edition of India Gaming Show (IGS) 2017. Aimed at creating a platform for all stakeholders in the sector from both India and overseas, the gaming show will leverage the huge opportunities that India offers in this unique space.

The presence of the UK as the focus country at this maiden edition, speaks of the significance of IGS and the potential the sector holds for the future.

The UK’s panel discussion will focus on the country’s gaming, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) sector, explaining the rich opportunities for Indian gaming developers making a market entry in the UK.

Mark Leaver brings with him extensive knowledge of the UK’s creative industries and has a strong track record in assisting and advising international businesses on investing and growing their presence in the UK marketplace.

The UK creative industries have a global reputation and continue to grow in both scale and influence - a fact recognised by their inclusion as a key sector in the new UK government industrial strategy.

I look forward to discussing the latest trends and innovations, and the potential for new commercial relationships between Indian and UK companies.

UK games market

The UK games market is the sixth largest in the world, with nearly £3 billion consumer sales in 2016. It is also a global centre of production with more than 2,000 producers creating internationally recognisable intellectual property, from Batman, Arkham to Monument Valley.

The British government is supporting the industry by creative tax reliefs ensuring the UK games industry continue to thrive and innovate in new platforms. The UK is responsible for some of the most world’s iconic games, from console and mobile to virtual reality.

Panel discussion and roundtables

The panel discussion will throw light on the growth, trends and opportunities in the country’s flourishing games industry. There will be discussions on existing commercial links between the UK and India, and future opportunities for Indian businesses in the UK market. Indian investments are already growing in the UK as it is the second largest investor in the country.

DIT also held 2 roundtables on 31 January in Hyderabad and 1 February in Mumbai focusing on opportunities for Indian companies in the UK creative industries.
