UK - Lesotho relations boosted
Lesotho Prime Minister visits London to set out to potential UK investors the opportunities for business in the 'Mountain Kingdom'
The Prime Minister of Lesotho, The Right Honourable Dr Thomas Thabane, is visiting London this week to set out to potential UK investors the opportunities for business in the ‘Mountain Kingdom’. He will address an Investment Forum at Marlborough House, meet with representatives of key sectors including mining and tourism, and give a speech to the Royal Institute of International Affairs, on Lesotho’s Domestic Priorities and Global Interests.
The visit has been organised by the Commonwealth Business Council. The Prime Minister will meet with CBC Chair, Lord Marland and the Commonwealth Secretary General HE Kamalesh Sharma.
Prime Minister Thabane will also meet the FCO Ministers for Africa and for the Commonwealth, and hold a round table with Representatives from the many British Non Governmental Organisations working in Lesotho.
The visit demonstrates the growing strength of relations between the UK and Lesotho. British High Commissioner Judith Macgregor presented her credentials to His Majesty King Letsie III last month. This followed a busy 12 months of UK-Lesotho activity including last year’s visits to Lesotho by the Minister for Africa and a UK Commonwealth Parliamentary Association delegation. Earlier this year the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton relay toured Lesotho. It was celebrated with mass aerobics in a Maseru shopping mall, and more traditional dancing in Lesotho’s majestic mountain regions. We are looking forward to welcoming the Basotho team to Glasgow for the Commonwealth Games in July. With the ever expanding links between our two Kingdoms, they can be assured of a warm welcome.
