UK holds the 2nd annual 'UKinPak' Public exhibition in Islamabad

British Deputy High Commissioner, Patrick Moody with Director of British Council in Pakistan, Rosemary Hillhorst and partners

British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Patrick Moody said:

The UK spends more on education in Pakistan than it does in any other country overseas.

People from various segments of society including academia, media, government and the diplomatic community met with officials from the British Council, the British High Commission and the British Business Centre at the exhibition.

The new Director of British Council in Pakistan, Rosemary Hillhorst, said:

Education opens the door for our children and grandchildren to discover all the opportunities the world has to offer. The British Council is delighted to be working in Pakistan to provide an environment and activities to help all of our young people to succeed and grow.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr. Patrick Moody said:

It gives me great pleasure to see that the UKinPak exhibition presents the full extent of our education work in Pakistan. Pakistan remains one of the top priority countries for the UK. The Department for International Development (DFID) supports Pakistan with its largest bilateral education programme anywhere in the world. The British Council similarly has just recently reopened its libraries in Lahore and Karachi and continues to administer in Pakistan amongst the greatest number of English language exams anywhere in the world.

Under the UK Government funded Chevening Scholarship Programme, we have sent a record number of Pakistani scholars to the UK this year for post-graduate degrees and we expect these numbers to further rise in the future. This year also marks the first time we have sent a Pakistani scholar for the Chevening-Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (OCIS) Fellowship and the Chevening Library Fellowship. Under Chevening we also offer the South Asia Journalism Programme Fellowship for Pakistani journalists. And we are once again bringing our GREAT Debate competition which will be happening across Pakistan this year.

The presence of British businesses in Pakistan remains stronger than ever through UK Trade and Investment and our newly opened British Business Centre which facilitates over a hundred British companies operating in Pakistan and supporting its economy.
