A delegation of British companies will attend AusBiotech this week – Australia’s premier biotechnology conference – with the aim of further strengthening ties between our two countries in the life sciences sector.

The two-day conference and exhibition has been bringing the global biotechnology community together for the past 30 years and UK Trade & Investment has once again partnered with the UK’s BioIndustry Association to bring the delegation to Australia.

Director General of UK Trade & Investment Australia & New Zealand, Nick McInnes, said:

Australia is the leading location for biotechnology in the Asia Pacific region and the fourth largest biotech market in the world. The life sciences sector is also the third largest contributor to economic growth in the UK, with an annual turnover of over £56 billion.

There are a number of opportunities available for British companies looking to introduce their products and services in Australia, in areas like drug discovery, development, clinical trials and contract manufacturing.

We also want to encourage Australian biotech companies to consider the UK as the first step in their international expansion plans - UKTI supported 168 new investments into the UK life sciences sector from around the world in the last financial year - and my team will be available at the conference to offer our assistance.

Coinciding with the AusBiotech conference is a visit by UKTI’s Life Sciences Sector Specialist, Jon Mowles. Jon can offer insights into the UK market for businesses of all sizes that operate in pharmaceuticals, medical technology, biotechnology and industrial biotechnology.
