UK companies urged to come to Latin America
British Ambassador to Peru encouraged UK companies to make the most of business opportunities in South and Central America.
The British Ambassador to Peru, James Dauris, along with the British Ambassadors to Venezuela, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Mexico attended a Latin America conference at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester as part of Export Week to highlight the business opportunities for UK companies in the region.
South America makes up 8% of the global population and has a rapidly growing middle class, stable economies, high growth and low interest rates – making it impossible to ignore.
Ambassador Dauris presented on Peru’s remarkable sustained economic growth (6% in 2012) and highlighted the enormous potential Peru’s infrastructure development plans represent for UK companies (eg roads, ports, urban transport, railways, airports, hospitals, water and sewage, and many more).
UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) Regional Director in the North West, Clive Drinkwater, said that companies need to stay ahead of the game and look to do business in South and Central America.
“We’d like to see as many businesses as possible attending Export Week to learn how they can make the most of opportunities in South America. While the BRIC markets still provide great opportunities, businesses would be foolish not to take a long term view, and opportunities in the new growth markets such as South America shouldn’t be ignored”.
