GREAT Britain yacht arrives at port in Qingdao today.

The GREAT Britain yacht arrives at port in Qingdao today, having set sail from London’s St Katherine Docks in September 2013 as part of the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race. The race is the longest ocean race on the planet and the GREAT Britain yacht provides an opportunity for some of Britain’s strongest brands to help deliver a sporting legacy, whilst celebrating Britain’s heritage as a maritime nation and capturing the British sense of adventure.

British Ambassador to China Sebastian Wood said:

Congratulations to all the adventurers in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, especially the GREAT Britain & Northern Ireland crew for arriving in first place. This is the fifth time that the Clipper Race has come to Qingdao. However, it is the first time that we have brought a taste of Britain to Qingdao through our GREAT British Brands Showcase. As the links between Britain and Qingdao grow, I am delighted that Chinese shoppers will have the chance to visit the showcase and buy the best of British brands.

Covering more than 40,000 miles, the Clipper Race is the world’s longest yacht race, visiting 15 ports on six continents. This year, the Clipper Race celebrates its 17th anniversary, having been conceived in 1995 by British sailor Sir Robin Knox-Johnston. Sir Robin is the founder of the UK’s ‘Adventure is GREAT’ campaign that encourages more people in the UK to enjoy active pursuits and to promote GREAT Britain on the global stage.

The Clipper team from the GREAT Britain yacht will visit the nearby GREAT British Brands Exhibition at the Licang Wanda Plaza, for a taste of home and to meet with staff from exhibiting companies.
