Rio Tinto Workshop

In April 2013 British-Australian Rio Tinto Mining and Exploration Ltd. conducted a joint workshop entitled “Legislation on Industrial safety, health and environment for exploration works”. The workshop marked the beginning of exploration work by Rio Tinto under a license from the Government of Uzbekistan.

More than 50 representatives of the government authorities and state companies of the Republic of Uzbekistan together with Rio Tinto international managers and specialists took part in the workshop to share experience and excellence in operations on Health, Safety, Environment and Community issues.

In his welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the workshop, HM Ambassador noted that the approach of using internationally recognised standards as well as best practise developed in house is characteristic of British companies, which bring not only investment but also excellence in operations, bringing new technology and creating efficient yet safe industrial developments.

This joint workshop facilitated a dynamic discussion and helped promote improvements in the approach to industrial safety for Rio Tinto and Uzbekistan. This will form the basis for best practise in managing risks, and applying international standards in the company’s operations in Uzbekistan.
