Research collaboration between UK and Uzbekistan

The British Council Uzbekistan is implementing a project named “Research is Great” aimed at promoting UK-Uzbekistan research collaboration.

The British Council Uzbekistan in partnership with Iste’dod Fund, Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of Uzbekistan and the British Embassy is implementing a project named “Research is Great” aimed at promoting UK-Uzbekistan collaboration on research, development of new approaches to planning and conducting research projects, establishment of sustainable research partnerships between higher education institutions, agencies and think tanks in the UK and Uzbekistan.

From 25 to 29 January the British Council are leading training-seminars in research management and use of ICT for a team of 30 leading researchers from Tashkent Medical Academy, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Uzbek State World Languages University, Bukhara State University, Banking and Finance Academy, Tashkent State Economic University, Centre for Economic Research and the Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics. The seminars are part of the British Council’s global educational programme for scientists and university managers called Research Connect. The programme is designed to assist Uzbek researchers to take up a strong position in the global scientific community, build international partnerships effectively, cooperate with colleagues and present the research findings.

The next stages of the project include study visits of researchers to the UK to develop partnerships with British Universities, as well as a National Research and Innovation Conference where results of the study trips will be presented and further efforts of building cooperation between Uzbek and British researchers and universities will be discussed.

Her Majesty’s Ambassador Mr Christopher Allan attended the opening of Research management workshop, where he said:

This initiative supported by the UK’s Great Challenge Fund is an important element of our countries’ bilateral relations. It is a significant contribution to quality assurance and research cooperation between Uzbekistan and UK.
