The Rt Hon Peter Lilley MP is visiting Uzbekistan this week for the 2013 Oil and Gas Conference, and for talks related to his role as UK co-Chair of the Uzbek-British Trade & Industry Council (UBTIC). UBTIC’s other co-Chair is His Excellency Mr Elyor Ganiev, Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investment and Trade of Uzbekistan.

As a former UK Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, Mr Lilley has a wealth of experience of British business, and has visited Uzbekistan on several occasions in recent years. He was Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party from 1997-1999. The UK’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan, George Edgar, said: ‘It is great to welcome Peter Lilley to Uzbekistan for his latest visit, as part of the continuing strengthening of the UK’s commercial relationship with Uzbekistan. We look forward to the 20th anniversary session of UBTIC later this autumn, at which we hope there will be more companies than ever before participating.’

UBTIC is a government-sponsored trade promotion body designed to assist and support British and Uzbek businesses to strengthen bilateral economic co-operation. It comes under the umbrella of the British Government’s overseas trade organisation, United Kingdom Trade & Investment (UKTI).
