Prime Minister Hon Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama opens the Royal British Legion Community Welfare Centre in Suva

The Prime Minister of Fiji, Hon Rear Admiral (Retd) Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama was Chief Guest at the opening of the Royal British Legion Community Welfare Centre today.

The British Government for some time had been intending to build a community hall for the benefit of all Fijian citizens and their dependents who have served or currently serve in the British Armed Forces.

In February this year, the Government of Fiji provided for rental a government quarter to house office space for two registered charity organisations; the Royal British Legion (Fiji Branch) and the British Families Association of Fiji (BRISFAF). Both these organisations are involved in caring for the welfare of the soldiers and their families, many of whom remain in Fiji. These organisations act as a focal point for all family members who need their assistance.

There are currently an estimated 1800 Fijian nationals serving across all three services of the British Armed Forces.
