Newton Fund in Vietnam – First calls for applications

The UK and Vietnam are now working together to further strengthen the research capacity of Vietnam and to support their excellent bilateral research ties through the Newton Fund.

The British Council, the British Academy and the UK Royal Academy of Engineering, the National Foundation for Science and Technology Development (NAFOSTED) of Vietnam are now calling for the first bids to Newton Fund.

Please note that all the application(s) must be done online in the website of UK organisations and by a joint team of Vietnamese and UK scientists.

The Newton Fund is a £375 million fund (for 5 years starting 2014/15), which is part of the UK’s official development assistance. Through the Newton Fund, the UK will use its strengths in research and innovation to promote the economic development and social welfare of partner countries, including Vietnam. With a holistic approach the Fun covers activities under three pillars: People, Research and Translation in various development issues.

Up to £10 million has been identified for the collaboration with Vietnam and will be delivered under the coordination and management of UK’s Department of Business, Innovation and Skills, British Embassy in Hanoi and Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). A group of UK and Vietnamese partners such as British Council, British Academy, Royal Academy of Engineering, Research Council, Innovate UK, MOST, National Foundation for Science and Technology Development and so on will administer the Fund.
