Minister Lord McNally in St. Petersburg

Lord McNally is visiting St. Petersburg International Legal Forum.

In addition to the three-day programme at International Legal Forum Lord McNally was holding bilateral meetings with senior Russian officials and meeting legal experts, as well as representatives of the leading NGOs.

Lord McNally also made a speech at the St. Petersburg State University of Economics on ‘The value of the rule of law for economy and society’ followed by a Q&A session. He talked about:

  • the centrality of the rule of law in modern society

  • the protection that the rule of law gives to the citizen and international trade and commerce

  • modernisation and the protection of human rights being the only true guarantees of stability and prosperity

  • challenges for rule of law and it’s delivery

  • the UK Government’s approach to open government and how its freedom of information law is working and the importance of building on existing cooperation between the UK and Russia.
