First UK – Paraguay Trade and Investment Forum took place in London

On 6 November the first UK-Paraguay Trade and Investment Forum took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. A Paraguayan delegation participated in the event with the aim to communicate the advantages of making business in Paraguay. The Paraguayan delegation was headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Eladio Loizaga. Other Ministers who attended include Minister Gustavo Leite, Ministry of Industry and Commerce; Germán Rojas, Minister of Finance; Ramon Jimenez Gaona, Minister of Public Works and Communications; Jorge Gattini, Minister of Agriculture and Livestock; Marcela Bacigulpa, Minister of Tourism and Carlos Fernandez Valdovinos, President of the Central Bank of Paraguay.

More than 250 British and European businessmen participated in the event which focused on energy, infrastructure, agriculture, financial services and tourism. UK Minister for Latin America, Hugo Swire spoke of the growing importance of UK in Latin America and more specifically on the expanding links with Paraguay. Minister Swire said “the UK is determined to deepen its commercial ties with a rising Latin America” and described Paraguay as “a perfect trade and investments partner for the UK”.

Present at the forum were Peter Levine, President of Biritsh oil and gas company President Energy who is undertaking oil exploration in the paraguayan Chaco; John Wardle, CEO of the oil company Amerisur Resources PLC; Germán Ruiz, President of the Paraguayan Rural Association and Paraguayan businessmen such as Miguel Carrizosa, Gustavo Saba and other important representatives of the private sector.
