The private ceremony was held in the official residence of Britain’s ambassador to the Dominican Republic. The Ambassador’s residence is British sovereign territory, and this wedding is legally binding following the introduction of new rules allowing UK nationals in same-sex relationships to marry at British consulates in 24 countries around the world.

This marriage is not regarded as valid by Dominican authorities since the Dominican government does not recognise marriages involving two people of the same gender regardless of where they were performed.
