Farewell for Chevening Scholars

The British High Commission in Suva farewells nine Chevening scholars from Fiji and Tuvalu.

High Commissioner Roderick Drummond yesterday hosted afternoon tea to farewell 5 of our 9 Chevening scholars from Fiji and Tuvalu. The event was attended by guests and work colleagues of the sholars as well as former Chevening Scholars.

A total of 17 scholarships were offered through the three British High Commissions in Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands this year. 13 scholars will soon leave to take up their scholarships.

Chevening scholarship places tripled for the 2015/16 academic year to more than 1,500 globally. We anticipate the same numer of scholarships for the next academic year 2016/17

The Chevening scholarships programme was established in 1983 and is ofered in over 160 countries and territories excluding the EU and the US. It has developed into a prestigious international scholarships and fellowships scheme with influential global alumni network. It is funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and partner organisations. The scholarships are applicable to full time one-year taught Master’s degrees at UK institutions in the UK and does not place restrictions on the specific Master’s course studied, with th exception of military training. The programme to date has more than 44,000 alumni.
