Evelyn Low Tay honoured by Her Majesty The Queen
University of Ghana Medical School Coordinator was awarded an MBE in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2016 birthday honours for services to healthcare in Ghana.

The British High Commission Accra is delighted to confirm that Evelyn Low Tay, a Coordinator at the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana Medical School, was awarded an MBE in Her Majesty The Queen’s 2016 birthday honours.
Evelyn was awarded her MBE - Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire – in recognition of her services to healthcare in Ghana, through her work with the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana Medical School.
Evelyn is a philanthropist who works with various organisations to extend support and help in providing Healthcare services in Ghana. Since 1971, she has led projects such as UN Year of The Child; UN Year of The Disabled; the establishment of the Plastic Surgery Centre at Korle Bu; training of Ghanaian plastic surgeons in Scotland; construction of the Intensive Care Unit in Komfo Anokye Hospital – Kumasi; the National Cancer Institute on Prostate Cancer Research; and The Lions International Eye Centre (Moorefield’s eye centre) at Korle Bu. She is currently the lead Coordinator at the College of Health Sciences, University of Ghana Medical School. In recognition of her contributions, the Korle Bu Plastic Surgery Department have dedicated a plaque at the centre to honour her.
After receiving the news of her honour, Evelyn stated; “I have enjoyed doing this as a way to extend help and improve Ghana. The honour reflects all the Ghanaians who have helped me in achieving everything. They were the most supportive. The doctors, physicians, the Ministry of Health, professors and all the donors.”
