Time to Act

The widespread use of rape and other forms of sexual violence in armed conflicts around the world is one of the greatest, most persistent and most neglected injustices. Sexual violence in conflict inflicts unimaginable suffering. It is designed to destroy individuals, families and communities. In so doing it perpetuates conflict and instability, often for generations. But it is not an inevitable consequence of war. For this reason the British Foreign Secretary will co-host with Angelina Jolie the Global Summit to End Sexual Violence in Conflict in London from 10 - 13 June 2014.

On 10 June 2014 the British Embassy in The Hague and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs will host a Summit Fringe Event for Youth to complement the Global Summit. The Fringe Event will take place at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague and will include workshops and panel discussions which will explore the issue of sexual violence in conflict and wider related issues. Lunch will be provided for the approximately 80 participants. This event will be held mainly in English and is aimed at university students, graduates and young professionals with affinity for international security issues, human rights questions, humanitarian matters, peace and justice efforts, and communication and campaigning.
