Changes to visa processing at the British High Commission Kingston
From September 2nd 2014, applications for settlement in the United Kingdom submitted in Jamaica and other locations in the Caribbean will be decided by UK Visas and Immigration, Sheffield.
United Kingdom Visas and Immigration (UKVI), the section of the Home Office with responsibility for visa processing overseas recently announced some changes to its Jamaican application processes.
From September 2nd 2014, applications for settlement in the United Kingdom submitted in Jamaica and other locations in the Caribbean will be decided by UK Visas and Immigration, Sheffield, United Kingdom rather than as, at present, by UKVI staff in Kingston. Although applicants’ passports will remain at the British High Commission, Kingston throughout the process, all other supporting documentation should be sent direct to Sheffield by the sponsor/applicant. If approved, visas will be printed in Kingston.

UKVI will continue to offer an optional Priority Visa service for eligible applicants. The passports from applicants who select this service will remain at the British High Commission, Kingston and the application will be prioritised and expedited.
Applications will continue to be decided within UKVI’s customer service standards: 15 working days for non-settlement applications, and 60 working days for settlement applications.
A priority service will remain available at the Visa Application Centre ( VAC), as now, which aims to process applications within 3 – 5 working days.
