Celebrating Climate Diplomacy Day in Russia

The British Embassy in Moscow provides a great opportunity to stand up to climate change!

We are launching a Climate Change Photography competition across Russia on 17 June to mark ‘Climate Diplomacy Day’.  ‘Climate Diplomacy Day’ celebrates efforts around the world to prepare for an ambitious, achievable and sustainable global deal on climate change in December 2015.

The Photo Competition begins at 12:00 on 17 June 2015 and ends at 12:00 on 31 July 2015.

What to enter

We would like to see powerful images which depict either of the following:

  • The impact of human activity on our environment

  • Evidence of climate change happening around you

  • How we can work together to tackle climate change

We would like you to include a short description (either in English or in Russian) of what your image is, where it was taken, and how it relates to the criteria above.

How to enter

The British Embassy will run the competition on several social media channels such as Facebook, VK.com, Twitter, and Instagram. To take part in the competition you should do the following:

Facebook

  • Take a photo that demonstrates climate change

  • “Like” our official page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ukinrussia)

  • Send a direct message to “UKinRussia” with your photo attached (subject “ClimateDayRussia”)

  • Write a short caption describing what your image is and where it was taken

VK

  • Take a photo that demonstrates climate change

  • Follow our official page on VK.com (www.vk.com/ukinrussia)

  • Post your picture to the “Climate Day Russia” topic at “UKinRussia” discussion board

  • Write a short caption describing what your image is and where it was taken

Twitter

  • Take a photo that demonstrates climate change

  • Post it on your Twitter feed with a short caption describing what your image is and where it was taken – please make sure your profile is “Public”

  • Add #ClimateDayRussia hashtag to your tweet so your entry could be tracked

Instagram

  • Take a photo that demonstrates climate change

  • Post it on your Instagram account – please make sure that your account is “Public”.

  • Write a short caption describing what your image is and where it was taken

  • Add #ClimateDayRussia hashtag so your entry could be tracked

Each participant can submit a maximum of three pictures to only one of our social networks listed above.

Digital images that are sent via mail or email will not be accepted.

JUDGING AND CRITERIA

The winning entry will be the image that captures climate change in the most striking way.

The winners will be announced on 14 August on British Embassy webpage and social media.

The best images will be displayed at the State Darwin Museum in Moscow from 18 August to 27 September.

To enter the competition, you must be a resident of Russia at least aged 12 or over. In case a first prize winner is younger than 18 years old, he/she should be accompanied to London with one responsible adult.

Prizes

First prize includes flights for 2 people to London courtesy of British Airways (Moscow – London – Moscow), a pair of tickets to the Wildlife Photography exhibition in London’s Natural History Museum, and a fabulous British style bag.

Second prize winner gets a wonderful Union Jack tapestry cushion with coat of arms; a Red Bus magnetic notebook; and “Wildlife Photographer of the year portfolio” book.

Third prize is a lovely Beefeater teddy bear with a Crown Union Jack magnetic notebook.

The competition is run in partnership with British Airways, Hello London, Natural History museum in London, the State Darwin museum in Moscow and WWF Russia (World Wide Fund for Nature).
