10 day placement offered at the Financial Times' London office for Australian business journalist.
The British High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Mr Paul Madden, today announced the third UK Business Journalism Placement for Australian journalists, in conjunction with British Airways and the Financial Times.
The Placement gives the successful candidate the opportunity to work out of the offices of the Financial Times in London for 10 days; to research and write stories for an Australian audience. Last year’s winner, Peter Ker, Resources Reporter for Fairfax, said of his time there:
Two weeks at the Financial Times is an experience I would highly recommend. The FT’s London newsroom is stacked with knowledge and talent, and its reach into bureaus around the world makes it feel like any story can be pursued and delivered
Mr Madden said:
I’m very pleased to be able to support another initiative which helps bring Australia and the UK closer together. Events like the Ashes series remind us how close the people to people links are between our two countries, but it’s important not to forget the economic relationship too. In 2012 the UK was Australia’s 2nd most important foreign investment destination as well as the 2nd largest investor in Australia.
Nicole Backo, Regional Commercial Manager for British Airways said:
British Airways is delighted to continue this sponsorship and give a career enhancing opportunity to the successful journalist. We are proud of our heritage and the role we play in linking Australian business and leisure travellers with the UK
The winner will travel to London Business Class on British Airways’ new 777-300ER aircraft, flying in and out of Heathrow’s award-winning Terminal 5. Australian domestic flights, accommodation and subsistence will be covered by the British High Commission.
The successful journalist must travel to the UK and return to Australia prior to 31 March 2014. The British High Commissioner’s decision on the successful candidate will be final.
Interested applicants are asked to send a one page proposal, endorsed by their editor with stories they would like to write on the Australia-Britain business relationship and send to firstname.lastname@example.org, together with a CV. Applications will close at 12 midnight, Sunday 17th November.
