The British Embassy Quito supported a project run by FUDELA (Fundación de las Américas para el Desarrollo) to send a delegation of young Ecuadorean leaders to the Football for Hope Festival 2014 in Brazil. The festival will take place in Rio de Janeiro during the last two weeks of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. 32 teams from around the world will participate. The aim of the festival is to promote the use of football for social development globally and to empower young leaders to improve their and their community’s quality of life.

HM Ambassador Patrick Mullee was one of the members of the jury who selected the seven-person Ecuadorean delegation. The presentation of the Ecuadorean delegation took place on Wednesday, 26th March at the Ministry of Sport. Each member of the delegation was presented with an official t-shirt by the judging panel. The event ended with a friendly football match between the delegation, HM Ambassador Patrick Mullee, and other participants.
