British Embassy Quito launches project to support deaf children and their families
A manual was prepared by Ecuadorean NGO “Fundación Vivir la Sordera” (Living Deafness Foundation) with support from the British Embassy Quito and British NGO Deaf Child Worldwide.
British Ambassador Patrick Mullee attended the official launch of a manual for Ecuadorean families with deaf children on 31 January. The manual was prepared by Ecuadorean NGO “Fundación Vivir la Sordera” (Living Deafness Foundation) with support from the British Embassy Quito and British NGO Deaf Child Worldwide. It provides practical advice to help families better support deaf children.

The Vivir la Sordera Foundation organises regular workshops for families from across Ecuador. These workshops allow families to share experiences about raising deaf children, and to hear about techniques and best practice from the Foundation’s volunteers. The workshops in Quito are replicated in other provinces, which increases the reach and impact of the Foundation’s work.
Attending the launch on 31 January, Ambassador Mullee met volunteers from the Foundation as well as with parents from eight provinces. The Foundation is now working to expand the reach of its programme across Ecuador. More information can be found on their website www.vivirlasordera.com.
