British Ambassador hosts a business networking event in Tashkent

British Ambassador to Uzbekistan hosts a business event dedicated to strengthening business links with the UK.

On 14 June 2016, Her Majesty’s Ambassador, Mr Christopher Allan, gathered managers of local companies enrolled in the EU funded project “Management Training Programme (MTP) – Capacity Building for SME Management”; representatives of British companies operating in Uzbekistan; participants of a business study tour to the UK organized by the British Embass; the Association of International Business and Technologies; Afisha Media and Business Laboratory.

Ms Nodira Fayzieva, winner of the Embassy’s Facebook quiz on the UK economy, also participated at the event and was awarded her prize.

The event took place at the Ambassador’s Residence and was jointly organized with the Management Training Programme (MTP). Approximately 60 people had an opportunity to network with each other.

The reception began with opening remarks from the Ambassador followed by a welcome speech by the Team Leader of the MTP project, Mr Grigorios Kontzoglou. The British Deputy Head of Mission, Miss Fiona Maxton, gave a presentation on the UK economy and the opportunities for doing business with UK.

The finale of the event was a private screening of videos about the UK produced by the Business Laboratory team with the support and funding of the British Embassy Tashkent and the Great Challenge Fund Britain. Business study tour participants shared their visit experience with others. The videos follow the business study tour to the UK and depict business and cultural aspects of the UK. The videos will soon be available for public viewing online.

At the reception the Ambassador said:

The aim of today’s event is to strengthen business links between the UK and Uzbekistan. This is the first event of this type we have held and I am glad to see representatives from both the local private sector and representatives of UK businesses operating in Tashkent. I am delighted that there is so much interest in learning more about the UK and in applying to the MTP project. I hope we have provided an informative event and enabled businesses to understand better what the UK has to offer.
