Applications for Chevening Scholarships, the prestigious global scholarship programme of the UK government, are now open in Mauritius. The Scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and operate in 118 countries worldwide. They are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential. Awards are typically for a one-year Master’s degree, in any subject and at any UK university. The number of scholarships offered by the British High Commission is expected to triple this year, with up to six scholarships available.

This year, the British High Commission encourages applications from professionals who can demonstrate the ability to achieve positions of leadership and influence in the following fields:

• Economic and Financial • Environment • Education • Justice • Human Rights and Governance

To be eligible for a Chevening Scholarship, applicants must hold a first degree that is equivalent to at least a good UK second-class honours degree, and have at least two years of work experience in a field directly related to their proposed master’s course.

British High Commissioner to Mauritius Jonathan Drew said:

“Chevening Scholarships are a unique opportunity for Mauritians who aspire to be leaders, building their skills whilst developing an international network to help benefit their professional lives. The scholarship allows Mauritians to benefit from the quality of a British education and to establish social, cultural, academic and commercial partnerships with the United Kingdom. I am pleased to announce that we expect to triple the number of successful candidates this year.”

The closing date for applications is 15 November 2014.
