Whilst meeting with the High Commission staff, the singer was offered scones and cucumber sandwiches so that he had a little reminder of home. The arrival of the singer of UK and US No.1 hits ‘Red, Red Wine’ and ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love’ marks the first concert in the Solomon Islands by an internationally acclaimed artist since RAMSI’s intervention after the troubles faced by the country from 1998 - 2003.

H.E Dominic Meiklejohn said:

It’s great to welcome Ali to Honiara. He has played all over the world and his music is loved in Solomon Islands as it is in the UK and elsewhere. I know he’s really enjoyed the warm Solomon Islands ‘welkam’. This event builds on the wonderful cultural year Solomon Islands had in 2012, including the memorable visit by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The concert was considered a roaring success by the Solomon Island’s media and by the enthusiastic audience who knew every word to the Birmingham born artist’s songs and enthusiastically sang along and danced throughout the evening.

Ali’s visit is further evidence of the role arts and the UK are playing in helping Solomon Islands maintain its peaceful environment, and was a major success for the country, as well as for the promoters who worked hard to make sure Ali and his band could appear in Honiara.
