Celebrating the 30th anniversary of Chevening Scholarships in Uruguay
Over the past 30 years 43,000 people from over 150 countries received scholarships from the British Government.
To coincide with a celebration being held in Chevening House in England with over 500 alumni from around the world, 30 Chevening scholars and graduates from British Universities attended a breakfast event at the Ambassador’s Residence in Montevideo.
Guests watched a video message from Foreign Minister William Hague where he highlighted the spirit of Chevening Scholarships and the importance of the programme to the British Government.
Chargé d’Affaires, Katharine Felton, announced the good news that this year the number of Chevening Scholarships available for Uruguay will triple thanks to the support of our local partner ANII and the British Treasury’s commitment to increase the budget for the programme worldwide. Up to 14 Uruguayans will be able to study for a Masters degree at top universities in the UK for the academic year 2015-16. The application period for Chevening Scholarships will open on 1st August.
At the event, the Graduates from British Universities Association (GBUA) held elections to renew its Board for the next two years.
The new board has already committed to interesting initiatives and encouraged everyone to keep in touch through the Facebook Group, which is also valuable as a networking and information tool for those thinking of studying in the UK.
