The Wider Determinants of Health tool is designed to:
- draw attention to the broad range of individual, social and environmental factors which influence our health
- provide the public health system with intelligence on the wider determinants of health, to help improve population health and reduce health inequalities
This update includes new time points for 13 indicators, on these themes:
- healthy environment
- economic inactivity and unemployment
- work-related ill health
- fuel poverty
- gender pay gap
- home ownership affordability, including repossessions
- food insecurity
- first time entrants to the youth justice system
- pupil absence and young people not in education, employment or training
The release also adds a new topic about gambling which has 8 indicators, on these themes:
- adults in the ‘8+’ category of the problem gambling severity index (PGSI) (modelled data)
- adult gambling activity excluding lottery draws in the past 4 weeks by type and whether in person or online (modelled data)
- adults experiencing any severe or negative consequences due to own gambling or that of others (modelled data)
