Comparing 2025 Quarter 3 (July to September) with 2024 Quarter 3 (July to September), in the UK there were:

  • 696,000 vehicles registered for the first time, an increase of 3% (VEH0150)
  • 135,000 vehicles registered for the first time that were zero emission, an increase of 23% (VEH1153a)
  • 124,000 cars registered for the first time that were zero emission, an increase of 21%

As at September 2025, compared to September 2024, in the UK there were:

  • 42.4 million licensed vehicles, an increase of 1% (VEH0101a)
  • 1,759,000 licensed zero emission vehicles, an increase of 36% (VEH1103a), including 1,630,000 zero emission cars, an increase of 37%

As at September 2025, zero emission vehicles accounted for 4.2% of all licensed road using vehicles, an increase of 1.1 percentage points compared to September 2024.
