Details
Statistics on taxis and private hire vehicles (PHVs) in England show that, as at 1 April 2026, there were:

52,300 licensed taxis, a decrease of 7% compared with 2024

290,000 licensed PHVs, an increase of 13% compared with 2024

417,300 taxi and PHV driver licences, an increase of 9% compared with 2024
-
34,500 wheelchair-accessible licensed taxis and PHVs, a decrease of 4% compared with 2024
These headline figures have been rounded to the nearest 100.
