Details

The local bus fares index increased by 15.2% in England outside London between September 2024 and September 2025. This period covers the introduction of the £3 fare cap in England from 1 January 2025, which has led to a larger change than previous quarters.

For other areas, the local bus fares index change between September 2024 and September 2025 was:

• 0.0% increase in London
• 12.4% increase in metropolitan areas
• 16.9% increase in non-metropolitan areas
• 8.3% increase in Scotland
• 10.4% increase in Wales

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 3.8% over the same 12-month period.
